Steppin' Out With The Locavores

There’s something not quite right about leaving a trendy restaurant, where hors d’oeurves and cocktails are a plenty, then going home to eat a chicken pot pie heated up in the toaster oven.

But that’s what I just did after meeting an impressive group of the movers and shakers in the Chicago locavore community.

They were gathered at Mado at Damon & Milwaukee to celebrate the launch of The Local Beet, a very well-run locavore upstart.

Other than the olives, I wasn’t a fan of the appetizers. And since I gave up alcohol for Lent, I couldn’t partake of what appeared to be some pretty intriguing cocktails, including beet-flavored vodka.

The best part of the night, by far, was meeting so many of the faces I’ve blogged about over the last couple of years. It’ll give me a more personal context for future posts.

The toughest part of the evening was trying to explain how I’m connected to all this and to try to define my blog.

It’s so personal, driven by my own interests and musings, it’s tough to try to explain or sell VFG.

  1. I understand how you feel about explaining yourself. I feel the same about the chemical world. I read, and learn about the “toxic legacy” but really have no part in the industry, I am just a participant on the planet. But you should not have to “sell” your blog. It is one of the best, more frequently updated, interesting and covers such a range of topics and uses a variety of sources. I do enhjoy it so.
