I had the pleasure of dining with some very knowledgeable reps from throughout Indiana on Wednesday.
These folks knew their stuff.
Not one of them pitched me an idea that they didn’t really know something about, from either doing serious research or experiencing the product, visiting the restaurant or meeting the artists and farmers first hand.
My notebook is full of tips from Evansville to Elkhart.
First on my list though is the tip I couldn’t get out of my mind from the minute I heard the name: Farm Bloomington. It’s a new restaurant featuring culinary genius and farm-fresh food snob (that’s a good thing) Daniel Orr.
From what I learned Wednesday and the video tour, Orr is really doing some great things in that hopping college town.
I hope to blog more about Chef Daniel and FARMBloomington after I’ve had a chance to visit. I’ll be in Columbus and Brown County this weekend, but doubt we’ll make it all the way to Bloomington.
But I could be tempted. What I like about Orr is that he is taking the farm-to-table movement head on. Instead of just buying local fresh produce and products, he’s involving himself in the effort…literally from farm to table.
His restaurant is filled with the farm implements of our forefathers and mothers, including a chandelier made from an old chicken cage once used for selling fowl at market.
And I hear the food’s pretty good too.

Mother always took Uncle Wil and Aunt Camille out to a “Renter’s Dinner” each year in the fall to show appreciation for caring for her land. They would research some really great place in the area and off they would go.It was a tradition that Grandmother came up with and Mother continued.I mention this because this Farm Bloomington sounds like a place that they would have selected to go.I want to go! This weekend will be to hectic but maybe we should go back to my roots to celebrate my birthday. … I was born in Bloomington you know! We can add it to the list for consideration.
