First haul of the 2014 market season

Opening day of our 2014 Farmers Market season went off better than I’d hoped.

There’s always a bit of a scramble: Our market manager had new folks to train. Plus, we have six commissioners and new volunteers to get up to speed. That plus an unprecedented four new vendors: Ingram’s Bread; Hazzard Free Farms; Rise & Roll Bakery; and Big Head Farms.

All that activity only added to the excitement for me this year.

The pic is my first haul of the season: Fresh giant shrooms from River Valley; rhubarb and asparagus from Hardin’; Cucumber and lettuce from Iron Creek; a rainbow of eggs from Wettstein’s; thyme and pepper bread from Ingram’s; and garlic cheese bread from Rise & Roll.

The food for the week, plus the music and the smell of donuts and coffee on a perfect spring morning made me happy to be
