Farmers Market Countdown

We’re still two months away from the start of the Oak Park Farmers Market and I’m already starting to get a little excited.

This is the time of year when I start to crave spring. It’s coming. Even though it’s only 32 degrees right now (and weather reports say it’ll be that way for at least two more weeks), I can see the bulbs shooting above the icy ground.

My fingers are crossed that area farmers, who were devastated by a warm spring then late freeze last year, will see something more normal and have crops aplenty starting with market opening day on May 18.

I’m not the only one with the farmers market on my mind. The Village of Oak Park has been pulling together interviews with farmers and recently released this one of “The Vinegar Man,” Jim Vitalo from Herbally Yours.

I get to see Jim, who is the vendor rep on the Oak Park Farmers Market Commission, at the commission’s monthly meetings. But it’s much more fun to hang out with him at the market. Plus, I’m getting low on my garlic balsamic vinegar and spice rub supply.

Updated to correct the Farmers Market opening day.
