Just in time for cooler weather and busy fall schedules will be the release of “The Indian Slow Cooker: 50 Healthy, Easy, Authentic Recipes.”
The book is a labor of love and story of mommy-self discovery for Anupy Singla, a former broadcast reporter who I’ve reconnected with via social media.
Anupy and I used to serve on a local media board together, years ago, when we both had a ton of energy and no kids as we worked on developing our journalism careers.
My do things change. Or, I should say, priorities change when those little ones come along.
This was especially true for Anupy, who woke with the realization that her children’s only regular exposure to her family’s Indian food heritage would be carry out and prepackaged meals.
Anupy decided to do something about it. She boldly sidelined her budding career and decided to stay at home and cook for her children every Indian recipe she grew up with…at least once she says on her blog, “from sweet to savory.”
She says: “I figured if I didn’t do it for them – who would?”
Fortunately for the rest of us, she’s also decided to share. That desire to share and her training to report what she’s learned has culminated in this new book, The Indian Slow Cooker. It’s set to publish Oct. 1. You can find it on Amazon to pre-order, which I did this morning.
I’ve already had a taste of her recipes. Google her name and you can find her recipes online in articles she’s freelanced for the Sun-Times and on her blog, Indian As Apple Pie.
I missed her parent-child class at Kids’ Table, but I hope to get one of my little sous chefs to join me for a class at some point.
