Finally. A Win

Winning isn’t everything. But it sure feels good, at least once in a while.

After several weeks of straight losses, albeit with improvement each week, my son’s t-ball team finally got a mark in the win column.

They came closer than they’d ever been on Tuesday night. But today, they played some really good defense and hit a few good ones.

Of course, I’m proudest of the run my son batted in…the one that clinched the win at the bottom of the 6th inning.

I’d been worried that the boys would have to endure a losing season, like my son did with soccer, where the best result was one game that ended in a tie.

It’s impressive how the coaches have continued to motivate the boys, loss after loss. At one point, a player complained, “We’re losing.” And the coach countered, “We’re competing.”

And compete they do, to the bitter end, even in the cold and under threat of rain. It never got past 47 degrees during this morning’s game.

But, even though I was bundled up in my winter coat and gloves (and I’m still trying to warm up), there wasn’t a Cubbie on the field who could feel the chill by game’s end.
