I’m not seeing that there will be a First Farmer, but I was elated to see this evening that First Lady Michelle Obama will be planting a vegetable garden on the White House grounds.
Wow. What a victory for the organic, locavore movement who pressed for such a symbolic move!
This is the first time someone has planted a garden on the grounds since Eleanor Roosevelt planted her victory garden during WWII.
The garden, which will be tilled and planted by grade school children from D.C., will have 55 herbs and veggies from a wish list compiled by White House chefs.
The New York Times reports that the 1,100 square-foot plot will be visible to the public from E Street.
