I finally caught up with my Tribune Good Eating section for this week and was giddy to discover that a new “artisanal” bakery has opened, with a name that took my breath away: Hoosier Mama Pie Co.
Love it.
And I especially love that the owner of this new Ukrainian Village sweet shop has a Hoosier sugar cream pie on the menu. The freelancer writing the piece describes the sugar cream pie as “luxury on a fork.”
I didn’t see sugar cream listed on the online menu. However, I am delighted to note that there’s a strawberry rhubarb.
Makes me tempted to swing over there on my way home. But I’ll probably just make my own this weekend…maybe using some of the baking tips Paula Haney provides on her site.
I should also note that Haney’s menu changes with the seasons…so she can fill her pies with ingredients at their peak of flavor.
Oh…and if the Ukrainian Village is too much of a hike, you can pick up pies at Green City Market or a select number of cafes in the area.
So, um, Susan, if you’re reading, can I make a request that you add Buzz Cafe to the list?
