The 4-H Champ reminded me that I didn’t even mention that besides cherries, Traverse City has made a name for itself by hosting a pretty fantastic little Film Festival.
While we were there at the local beach we saw lines of people at the local artsy theater and lined up around the corner to get into see screenings at the opera house.
The 4-H Champ got to see Madonna on main street. Photos here (with Michael Moore) at Michigan Live.
Madonna, who like Moore is a Michigan native, was there to introduce her new documentary, “I Am Because We Are” (about the AIDS epidemic and poverty of Malawi, where Madonna adopted a child). Phil Donahue also appeared to screen his new film, “Body of War.”
On the lighter side, or more controversial side, there was Bill Maher’s “Religulous” (from the director who brought us “Borat”).
It’s too late to enjoy the festival this year, but you can become a friend of the festival and get first dibs on tix next year.
